How many more “Why are republicans opposed to taking windfall profits from BIG OIL” questions will be asked?

This question has been asked a thousand times today.

This is why us conservatives are opposed to it, the price of gas would sky rocket.

how many times will you call someone a liberal today when you cannot base your point on facts?

you are the exact reason why i do not support conservative policies.

That’s not why I’m opposed to it. I’m opposed to it because if we start letting fat Congressmen decide how much is “too much profit”, they’ll be doing to any corporation they consider a political enemy.

I guess it depends on how high the cost of gasoline is going to reach. I say seize all domestic oil companies and nationalize them. Work them like a co-op where we the people own the damn oil. When BILLIONS in profits are being made at the expense of the world’s economy and especially our own, it’s time to do something. Why should anyone oppose getting rid of the way big oil is raping us? We hear every kind of excuse offered as to why we shouldn’t touch the current system but it always basically comes down to, mess with oil, it’s gonna’ cost ya’ fools. Well guess what? We give them billions in tax breaks, they’re making billions in profit…and we’re paying out the ying-yang. Where is Teddy Roosevelt when we need him?

I just copy and paste this answer into every one of them I see….Maybe by educating the lemmings on the left, we can get one or two of them to think for themselves and not just do as the TV tells them.

People don’t seem to understand that “big oil” is not the problem. Yes, they are making record profits. But, most of the oil companies are not just in the US. They are global. Much of the profits come from the global market. The problem is OPEC. The demand has risen globally and the supply has not increased to meet that demand. China is importing more oil than ever, and the Chinese are paying whatever the OPEC countries want for it. This drives up the prices.

The short term solution would be for the US Government to stop collecting the 16c gas tax and reduce that to about 6c so that they can continue to maintain the highways. Then they need to allow the oil companies to drill. There is enough oil in Colorado and North Dakota to keep us sustained for the next 200 years.

Then they need to start letting the oil companies explore off shore oil off the coast of California and Texas. It is projected that the there is enough oil off the coast of the US to supply us for another 200 years.

This will give us the time we need to develop alternative fuels and to give the auto industry time to perfect the electric, hydrogen, and hybrid vehicles. The price of those vehicles will also fall, if the demand wasn’t so fervent.

Taxing big oil will only drive up gas prices as the companies will just pass the loss on to the consumer.

In America, should we be punished and penalized for being successful? I sure don’t believe so.

honestly, are you surprised that won’t sink in? perhaps someone could propose a model lemonade stand for them? we played this killer game in elementary school re: economics/market/etc, and our teacher would totally expand it… you could also sell apples, but the lemonade stand was MUCH cooler (and, really… who the heck sells apples anyway?)…
.
perhaps this elementary approach might be a more commensurate (or ‘commiserate’? heh, sorry, saw that typo on a resume website once) tutor for their level?
