What do you feel should be done about the record profits of big oil?

Nothing. Large profits are the fuel for competition. If we really want alternatives to oil we should do nothing.
Do what the smart people are doing, buy stock in Exon, BP etc… might as well get a share of the profits.

Public lashing comes to mind.
Some should go to stockholders, some to retained earnings, some to investments seeking alternative fuel sources development (R&D), and, some to the federal government in the form of taxation.
Americans should actively seek alternative sources for fuel.
The company I work for recorded record profits this year, should I be mad about it?
I have no problem with profits. What does trouble me, though, is that while they are taking in these profits, they are still receiving government subsidies - to the tune of about a billion dollars.
Just say no to corporate welfare.
Distribute it to the share holders, invest it back into the company, throw a big party?
What do you think should be done about the record tax revenue from gas sales? The government makes more money from gas than the oil companies do.

I wonder if the Socialists on here would want to subsidize these companies if the price of oil falls. Probably not.
But it has been ingrained in their pointy little heads that when someone or something is successful (rich people, profitable companies) then they should have to give most of their rewards back.
It is truly pathetic. And very destructive.
What should we do about star athletes and Hollywood celebrities who earn millions of dollars for play games or playing pretend, when teachers are so underpaid and so overruled that American students are among the dumbest in the world?
probably nothing, the people don’t have much yo say about excessive profits like that. they need to have profits, but cm-on. . they gotcha over a barrel. oil barrel, that is

Too late.
That’s the result of the American government sponsoring oil and gas companies and giving huge tax breaks. If the government took away these tax breaks and political backing, these companies won’t be much better than other companies in other sectors.
Since this government subsidy will not change much, you can profit from it by either working at these companies or buying stocks on these companies.
You can be right or you can be rich. Since I can’t do much about government subsidies, I’d rather just get rich with these companies. Educate yourself and get rich.
